When Colleen reached out to tell us about her journey, moving from raw feeding to our cold-pressed recipes, we were delighted to hear how well her dog had taken to the switch. This is Colleen’s story.
I’ve been passionate about dog nutrition all my adult life, and providing my dogs with good food became even more important once I entered the world of dog sports. What began as casually running with my dog soon developed into a full-blown hobby and passion, eventually leading me to compete at a national level in canicross and expand my family to include a purpose-bred sled dog, my Eurohound.
Until a few months ago, I had been exclusively raw feeding for more than ten years. While I still believe raw feeding is an excellent option when done correctly, it had become increasingly difficult to maintain. Spending long weekends in the campervan at dog sport events made transporting and storing raw food a logistical nightmare. On top of that, adding the right supplements to the 80:10:10 mix to ensure proper nutritional balance was making an already expensive choice even more costly, with complete mixes simply out of the question.
I began researching cold-pressed complete foods and slowly trialling alternatives. The first few we tried were a disaster. Huge, soft, smelly poos, lots of flatulence, and all the dogs losing weight and condition. I expected some change, but it left me feeling disheartened about ever finding a suitable alternative.
That was until I discovered Alpha Spirit. I tried the Semi-Moist Food as a final attempt, and it went down brilliantly. All the dogs absolutely love it, and their digestion is far happier. The poos are still a little different from raw, as expected, but I’m pleased with the consistency. Most importantly, they’ve regained their condition, their coats are shining, and their energy levels for training and competing are excellent.
Through my line of work, I’ve been approached in the past by several dog food companies (Skinners, Carnilove, Wild) offering ongoing discounts in exchange for social media promotion. I’ve always politely declined, as I wasn’t comfortable endorsing food I didn’t fully believe in or use myself. Now that I’ve been feeding Alpha Spirit long enough to be confident in it as a long-term option, I’m more than happy to recommend it to others in the community and to the pet owners who follow me online.
